Well, a Southwest Journal reporter called today to ask about the proposal to change Minneapolis DFL party rules so city delegates are elected in the same year as city elections (not the year before, at presidential/senatorial precinct caucus time). So I guess I really have to write the resolution and organize support. When I first broached the topic on the list, several of you emailed me volunteering to spearhead the proposal in your ward. Now that I'm getting down to "crunch time," I need volunteers to volunteer again! (To those who did before, THANK YOU and SORRY for making you do this again.) Please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] My goal is to get 2 "ward captains" per ward. The job will be to speak for the resolution, and pick up (or have delivered to you) some materials supporting the change that you can hand out at the ward convention. The more ward captains the better. I can't have too many volunteers. This won't take much of your time, but it will help immensely. In keeping with the grass-roots nature of the reform itself, I want to generate support at the ward conventions to help make the case to the Central Committee and city convention (which will make the ultimate decision). My plan is to write the resolution within the next week, and circulated/refine it on Minneapolis-issues before the first ward conventions on March 3. Here is the schedule of Ward conventions - I most desperately need volunteers from the early wards right now, but I'd like to make a complete roster as soon as possible: Saturday, March 3: Wards 7, 9, 12 March 10: Ward 11 March 17: Wards 2, 5, 8 March 24: Ward 3, 6, 13 March 31: Ward 1, 4, 10 The SW Journal reporter asked why I thought this change would pass this time when it has failed many times in the past. My glib answer was "fools rush in where angels fear to tread." My better answer was, "maybe because there will be more grass-roots support this time." Thanks to those of you who help prove this point.
