I got a call tonight from the Sayles Belton hired gun pollster. Here were
their questions:

What are your top two priorities of the following 7:
        Affordable Housing
        Environment
        NRP
        Crime
        Taxes
        Mass Transit
        Other

I think this list is straight from her web site. They wouldn't let me
identify other as I wanted so I told them Affordable Housing and Other. My
Other being two choices between Diminishing Corporate Wealthfare and
Stopping the Ethical Revolving Door Downtown.

They asked If I was planning on attending the May Convention.
I answered no.

Then they asked of the following candidates who was I supporting:
R.T. (They didn't even mention his last name, just his initials. I guess
they figure he's got a lot of name recognition with those initials.)
Sharon Sayles Belton
Michelle McDonald (I wasn't sure if Lisa had a sister running in the race or
not, so I prompted her and then she did say it was Lisa.)
Mike Shingle (I didn't know who Mike Shingle was, but I assumed it must be
Mr. Steinglin from the County board.)

I told her R.T.

All in all, not a very accurate poll. I would presume it was more for
leveraging money from her supporters than anything else.

Well, this is how the game seems to be played in this city. Give lots of
taxpayers' money to wealthy corporations, who build buildings so the unions
get their jobs, so you can get money from both of them and get the powerful
union endorsement. Then, announce you are running for a third term because
everything is hunky dory - timing the union endorsement and your polling
together so you get the most name recognition - so you can leverage more
money to outspend your opponents. All the time ignoring not only your
opponents, but also your constituents. Just keep saying everything is
great, and do a tour of the neighborhoods that you haven't visited or
listened to in 4 years. All the while, the little people are too busy
raising their families and taking care of their elderly parents to notice
anything is going on at all.
