Greetings RT, and MplsIssuesForum,
Others have responded to the specifics of
your attack on Mayor Sayles Belton. I just
wanted to share my differing perspective on
Sharon's presence in the 8th Ward in the last
several years. As District Chair of the 61st
Senate District, which includes all of the
8th Ward but two precincts, my impression is
that Sharon has continued to have a vibrant
presence in DFL activities that occurred in
the 8th Ward and in other of the city's
communities. When we have a fundraiser or
forum she rarely fails to be there when requested
and when not there I have always received a
explanation about the scheduling conflict.
When a friend of mine invited me to her
Guianan Hindu open house celebration, there
was Sharon speaking to the community. When a
friend of mine from Brazil was kind of looking
down on our GLBT Pride parade as less than what
he was used to, he burst into tears when I
answered his question about who the fabulous
brown woman with the pom poms and high kicking
was (the mayor). He was very moved. "We don't
have that in Rio," he said.
There are only two days to the weekend and 5
weeknights in the week, but my impression is
that most of them, you will find Sharon interacting
with the community.
I understand your need to show something wrong
with the incumbent in your mayoral bid, but
the implication that Sharon Sayles Belton is
not actively engaged in the diverse communities
that make up this city is unwarranted.
