A supplemental point. St Cloud is outside the metro calling area, so the
calls are subject to a long distance charge (unless a special 612, 763,
952, or 651 number was set up). The pollers could get a bigger bang for
their buck by bringing the activity into town. BTW, how do we know the
poll is a Sharon Sayles Belton campaign committee activity. Sharon is a
very sharp politico and would know instantly how dangerous such an
activity would be. Sharon's main strengths have always been to be able
to get disparate groups together in cooperative ways. I can not think of
a single situation where municipal interests have gotten into warfare
because of ineptitude on the part of Sharon. One of the biggest arenas
for such warfare is the strong council/weak mayor government (see
Minneapolis charter); there have been disputes over issues to be sure but
all have been resolvable without lingering "I'm gonna get even with you"
animosities. Of course, there are some who 'hate' Sharon but do not
forget to ask why.
