Some years back PM endorsed Linda Higgins. PM's language vs the stadium
was clear and well-known. PM believed Higgins accepted the MetroAgenda,
including the anti-stadium item. PM poured in workers; Higgins won by a
few hundred votes - almost surely due to PMs work. Just after she was
elected she came out FOR the stadium. PM asked her about it; she
apparently claimed she had not made that pledge. I imagine PM felt
betrayed; I would have.
Nevertheless, as far as I know, PM did not make a public statement
intended to call Higgins to accountability. A year later I saw a big Linda
Higgins sign up in the PM office. I suspect this is part of what seems to
be PMs motto never to ruffle the feathers of sitting DFLers.
This to me makes PM more like a paper tiger. It will work for you, but
will not bite if you knife it. A free ride to unaccountability.
But this perhaps explains PMs plaintive cry for accountability. Simple -
when bitten, bite back. Demand a written statement, to be widely published
if promises made are broken without a VERY good explanation, to PM, BEFORE
the event. And even then, if not acceptable to PM, published. Plus, the
pledge NEVER to work for that person again, and to be known to be open to
supporting an alternative candidate. And then DO it. Anything less is
eyewash.
Perhaps PM has further details on the Higgins affair.
