Well Mr. Finke, I called Gary Schiff today and asked him point blank about
your following statement:

was Gary Schiff's announcement of his endorsement by
Jackie Cherryhomes in the 9th Ward City Council race. How
is that supposed to play on the south side?>
What I learned is that your statement is absolutely NOT TRUE. And I
understand this rumor is also being spread by telephone calling to delegates
in Ward 9 trying to link Gary to Cherryhomes policies. Gary has already
gotten over a dozen calls from supporters wondering what's up. As I
understand it, Jackie Cherryhomes offered her endorsement and Gary Schiff
DECLINED it. Gary is not a supporter of Cherryhomes policies such as
uncontrolled TIF spending downtown or funding of a stadium. He is a
coalition builder with the right vision for our neighborhood. He has a real
vision and concrete, creative ideas for accomplishing what we need.
So the really bizarre thing is that someone who is Chair of the DFL 61st
Senate District, the Stonewall DFL State Secretary and a member of the DFL
State Constitution Commission would spread such a rumor without picking up
the phone and calling the candidate himself. I didn't believe Kathy Thurber
when she said there was a concerted effort in negative campaigning to get
rid of her. But, after investigating this incident, I am more and more
convinced that Kathy was exactly right - and now that campaign has shifted
toward Gary Schiff.
So in answer to your question, I think the effort to link Gary's policies to
those of Cherryhomes will fail and Gary Schiff will be the next
councilperson from Ward 9.
