When I saw this message from Loki I became extremely confused and then read
the intertwined message -it appears that parts of a message I wrote and
messages from Eva Young have been pieced and spliced together and
intermingled. So now you can not tell who said what. The truth be known
Eva once was a Democrat and worked on the Jesse Jackson campaign - at that
point in time ('88) people confused us then also. It's the Young thing I'm
sure - you know we all look alike...
anyway, I was the one who questioned the filing date theory of it being the
kick-off of the campaign season. It is my version of campaign reform and I
do always question the purpose of the litmus test question when very few
people seem to understand it's importance anymore.
The biggest question is-so you get the DFL endorsement, you abide by it -
all these other people run and then the question is what does the DFL do
for the candidate? There are many DFL endorsed candidates who will ask that
question. Mike Freeman - do you have an answer to this? Usually the main
answer you get is "the sample ballot". Let's be clear, the DFL party at
the local level does not really have any money and the candidate's all chip
in hundreds of dollars each to get that sample ballot out. Yes, it is a
valuable piece of information since many people (seniors especially) do not
always get out to all the events and do all the reading necessary to be up
on all the candidate's so they appreciate being told who they are supposed
to vote for. Even the political operatives move from candidate to candidate
for the joy of working to elect a candidate, but generally speaking a
candidate's workers come from loyal friends and neighbors not the cadre of
DFL volunteers.
I think a lot of the discussion this past couple of weeks only points out
that the real question is back to the caucus versus primary methodologies
and the influence of special interest groups used in electing our
officeholders.
For now,
Annie (not Eva) Young
