On the Russell Peterson - David Finke conversation:
No rules violations so far, but a caution: let's not let this one get
personal - focus on whether or not there is the Schiff-Cherryhomes link
being alleged. Also free advice: it's important that Gary Schiff, a list
member, weigh in on this one directly.
This is a perfectly appropriate place to weigh in on charges flying around
ward races (it may even be the best way to assess them). The key things are:
first, if you're alleging something, sign your name at take responsibility
for it; and second, focus on the facts/actions and keep any personal
ugliness off the list.
To be clear: without assessing the merits of the original charge, both
Russell and David are on the right side of the rules so far. Russell
addressed David's specific actions. Labeling an action "negative
campaigning" is not a personal insult and thus is not forbidden by the
rules. Again, I take no sides on who is right.
Let's everyone focused on facts and not insults, now and for the rest of the
election season.
Sincerely,
David Brauer
List manager
