The real problem for the DFL is that the "abide by the endorsement no matter
what" question has trumped it's ability to get the best candidates to the
table. I don't think we would be seeing such a problem here, if the DFL
were more focused on getting great candidates than keeping it's ranks
relatively small and insular.

Most people are not interested in caucuses because they are run poorly and
the inside game has been played out way before they get there. Most people
really could care less what the sub-caucuses think. And I believe most
people try to vote for the best candidate that is in-line with their value
base. If the DFL had superior candidates to carry out an excellent value
base, then they wouldn't be seeing all these challenges to their endorsement
or the loss of ground to other parties in this state in the recent past.

And I would appreciate it if people would stop harassing local individuals
because they supported or endorsed another candidate - especially in the
Presidential race. Let's face it Gore was not a great leader and couldn't
even beat Bush . So to tie his inability to win to a local election is
really unfortunate and it shows a huge weakness in the arguments for
supporting one candidate over another. I'd rather see a discussion about
the differences in vision and ability about the candidates than whether they
abided by the endorsement or supported Gore last year.
