Sadly for decorum - but fortunately for your list manager's time - I do not
review posts before they are sent to the list (unless there is some
formatting problem our list-server catches). That's why I am so often
enforcing rules after the fact. This is why I'm a "list manager" and not a
"moderator."
Also, our rules do not forbid rumor-mongering. The rules do require everyone
to put their real names on posts so that they will take "ownership" of their
accusations. I simply can't be a court of law to prove the truth of a
charge. The list's purpose is to get information into the public domain -
even if it is a rumor that is only being talked about behind people's back.
Then Minneapolis-Issues brings it out in the open, using sunshine as the
public disinfectant.
Personally, I trust our membership to make the right call once all sides
have spoken. The list's history has proven that if someone makes charges
they can't support, they get slapped down pretty quick, reducing their
future credibility.
Our rules do prohibit insults and inflamed speech, and there is a
possibility something could be so scurrilous and unsupported as to trip
those wires. But again, I ask us to value to the worth of the forum and
police ourselves.
