Actually, I sought the Green Party endorsement as well. From the
begriming, I was very honest about my intentions to seek the Independence
Party as well as the Grassroots Party endorsements. Never the less, I felt
that I was very well received by the Green Party. I even got one third of
the vote and a standing ovation from many at the end of my speech. Paul
Zerby was also very well received by the party, though he claimed that he
wished that Nader had not run and was a Gore supporter. Like any other
political party, the Greens are not perfect, but they are very tolerant of
newcomers and other opinions. I would also add that I hold all contenders
for the 6th ward seat in high regard, but the DFL is currently in power and
they have to deal with some of the negative aspects that the one-party
system at the local level has created. I have no desire to refight the last
presidential election. I do have a desire to focus our race on issues such
as; reigning in an out of control police force, the environment, affordable
housing and empowering our immigrants, ethnic minorities and our
counter-culture. I suspect that even Dyna would also have been allowed to
speak had she wanted to, and no one would need to defend her. Finally, a
partisan candidate running on his or her personality, past achievements and
present connections is not necessarily an effective candidate, particularly
in this contest that we keep referring to as a non-partisan election. We
should focus on solutions, not partisan squabbles.
