Tonight at our Board meeting, Incumbant Ross Taylor announced that he is
running for a 3rd term. Bill Green announced that he would not seek a
third term.
Three seats is a lot to turn over on a seven member board. It takes a
while to get up to speed and it is truly a public service to serve on a
school board. Ross has great intellectual insight as it relates to
educational matters. He volunteers regularly to tutor Somali students at
Roosevelt High School and he is very supportive of our Superintendent. I
applaud him for choosing to run again.
Dr. Bill Green has been invaluable, he is a very strategic thinker and
added a dimension to the Board that we will miss. He worked tirelessly on
the NAACP settlement and is also very supportive of Dr. Johnson. I have
enjoyed working with him this past year, and am looking forward to having
him as a colleague for the rest of the year. I had hoped that Sandra
Miller would run again, she is running for 8th Ward City Council. She's
been very down to earth and has a common sense approach to policy making.
She also works very hard and really has the kids at the center of her
deliberations on every matter.
Audrey Johnson
BOE Director
