This got me thinking, because I would assume that this
is utopian to suggest that voices of dissent could
freely express their opinions in this new library.

This lead me to wonder whether or not there is an
auditorium style classroom in the new central
library's design...anyone know? This seems like it
would be an excellent use of space for making the
library more of a community gathering space, if groups
from "Minnesotan's For Jesse" to "People Against Baby
Killers" had a public space they could use for
presentations of their ideas. Of course, the library
should utilize this same space for presentations about
it's collections, etc. But, including in the design
an actual public space within a public space where
ideas, marginal and otherwise, could be discussed
would be incredible. After all, isn't that
essentially the idea of the Library?

Hopefully my idea is not new, and is already included
in the design. Current and prospective Library Board
folks please comment!

Thanks,

Jon Kelland
