Robert Allen wrote an article that was published in the Star Tribune this week that should make the residents of this city cringe. It is very disturbing how much their experience with street lights has mirrored ours in Prospect Park. Will the City Council never stop forcing these exhorbitantly expensive lights on neighborhoods that don't want them, with lights that have not yet been optimized? Here is the link to that article: http://www.startribune.com/stOnLine/cgi-bin/article?thisSlug=ALL01&date=01-May-2001&word=lights&word=street In the case of Prospect Park, now that it is spring, you can see all the barren spots on the boulevards that had to be excavated. And then, when the costs of this project started getting out of control due to the defective specifications that were used for this project, apparently the city decided to seed these spots instead of putting down sod...and now only a small percentage of that seed has sprouted. On our corner lot, there were 5 different locations that were excavated to lay the cable (with no coordination with other utilities, of course), plus one hole that was dug into my front yard that was not repaired adequately. As they dug one of these holes, ALL of the root structure on the downhill side of one of the 20-year old trees were brutally removed, with no regard for that tree's future health. I wish the Field-Regina neighborhood luck in their lawsuit, in the hopes that something is successful in stopping this craziness.
