In Stonewall caucus screenings, acceptable ratings & endorsement
are decided by a secret ballot of the members in attendance. Each member
decides for themself what criteria they wish to use in casting their own
ballot. No one knows why a particular member votes for or against a
candidate, unless that member speaks about it during the discussion period.
For some members, holding to the DFL endorsement process is an
absolute requirement to get their vote. Others consider it just one of
many issues to consider.
In the St. Paul screening, several candidates were rated
acceptable; some promised to not run against a DFL-endorsed candidate, some
did not make that promise.
