I don't have kids, but since that isn't stopping anyone else, I'll weigh in.

It seems as though people are more interested throwing up ideological
strawmen than in discussion actual Minneapolis parents, students or
schools. Most of the people I know who do have kids send them to the
(Minneapolis) public schools but not for reasons of (gasp, horror)
political correctness. They do it because they are more or less happy with
the school and because, even if they have money, they want to have some of
it left for the kid's college and their own retirement. Some friends whose
son has attention deficit looked into private education and discovered that
the son would get less special attention in a private school than he was
getting in his public school. This does not mean that they are completely
thrilled with the public school but they've decided it's the best alternative.

Matthea has spoken from direct experience, saying that she sent her
children to *Iowa* rather than have them go to school here. That's very
scary. What do other people with actual children have to say about the
decisions they have made?
