What a smear! Hang the oh, so popular stadium issue around Buck Humphrey's
neck!
To clarify, the City has staff who work on issues. The Mayor has staff that
help her. The Mayor's staff rarely if ever take "lead" on any issue. That
is the role of the department staff because the folks working on an issue
need to be working both for the City Council and the Mayor. The Mayor's
staff may sit on committees to represent the Mayor or to gain information to
advise the Mayor on an issue, but very rarely do Mayor's staff lead the City
on an issue. (as I try to think back, I cannot actually come up with
anything that was led except for a short time as at transition to getting a
department staff working on an issue) For the stadium, I believe there are
staff from the MCDA who are the lead. I don't know exactly currently who it
is but you could call Keith Ford at the MCDA or Kathy O'Brien the City
Coordinator and find out.
