>The day the vote was taken Neva grieving the loss >of her sister. Neva's sister died the week >before the vote, and she was actually not in >session all the following week (the week the vote >was taken). Hi Matthea, thanks for letting us all know about this. When I posted this, I had no idea that Rep. Walker missed this particular vote for this particular reason. I had contacted OutFront to double check their information on Neva's vote-- and Ann DeGroot of OutFront had no idea why Walker missed this vote. >There were also big articles about her >unexpected death in both the Insight News and >Spokesman Newspapers. I am surprised you were >unaware. Matthea, I did not read those articles -- and even if I had, I might not have put two and two together on this. I do pick up Insight News when I see it. >It would seem that an apology is in order to Neva >on this issue. She has always been very strong >on GLBT rights. Neva took many homophobic >attacks having a lesbian (me) as her campaign >manager. She has consistently been an advocate >for GLBT issues, particularly GLBT youth. With regard to Neva Walker "taking many homophobic attacks", I'd like to hear more specifics about that. Who was giving her grief over that issue? >You might want to make sure you find out why our >public officials are absent before attacking >them. I remember your jumping on the bandwagon >of the Brian Herron attack when he was absent >from a vote, because he was recovering from >serious back surgery at the time the vote was >taken. I don't recall the specifics of what you mention. Brian Herron's attendance record (on the City for Neighbors Report) was lower than any of the other council members listed. Good overall attendance is a legitimate expectation for elected officials. Regarding a pattern of going after specific elected officials: I am a constituent of both Neva Walker and Brian Herron. That's the pattern. I've also praised Brian Herron on this list when I've thought he's done well -- and I think he did a wonderful job facilitating the No Motel meeting at Urban Ventures about a month ago, and again facilitating the unveiling of Basim Sabri's new proposal on the Baker Block. And heck on this same post didn't I go after Lisa McDonald for being AWOL on Minneapolis Issues?
