Sorry if I'm late responding to this latest post, but I spent the weekend
serving as a Judge at the Mn State 4-H horse show at the Mn State Fairgrounds.
In this post from Mr. Schapiro, he has another set of numbers -- still not
correct. (I pointed that out to him, in those "respectful off-list
exchanges"; he chose to post these numbers anyway.) I'm not going to go
into the details of all these numbers here, I doubt most of the people on
this list are that interested.
Mr. Schapiro seems to be pretty good at diversions himself. In his
original message, he claimed quite specifically that DFL/Labor was
responsible for printing and distributing "upwards of a quarter million
sample ballots". Now he expands that to include not just sample ballots,
but all DFL campaign lit pieces, and to include both the Primary and the
General campaigns, and says that this will be "close" to his original
claimed number. Well, OK. In fact -- fair warning, Mr. Schapiro -- we'll
do our best to go well over your number in supporting our endorsed
candidates.
I'm not sure why he's surprised that the DFL party puts a lot of effort
into electing our candidates. We do a lot of work to evaluate potential
candidates, putting them through screenings, small group discussions, phone
conversations, speeches, public Q&A sessions, etc.; and we squabble like
kids choosing the ones we think are best. Then we work like crazy to elect
the candidates we've endorsed. What's the big deal about that?
