Easy for you to say. However, when one realizes that the only factors limiting
a horrific attack on the IDS Tower are a death wish, a pilot's' license, and a
rental plane, it occurs to me that we need council members with a vision
beyond skateboard parks. Add to this the fact (if you can accept the word
of one firefighter) that the city has no contingency plans for evacuating
victims by helicopters from the downtown skyscrapers, then we have a
major problem. I'd prefer not to see video of people jumping hand-in-hand
from the upper floors of the IDS tower. Just who do you believe should take
leadership roles in disaster planning if not the mayor and the city council? NYC
is lucky they actually had a mayor with some smarts and not a political lodge pole.
In case you believe that the Heartland is immune from such problems, please take
some time to remember Oklahoma City. It's not time to lighten up, it's time
to wake up. This is no longer a world in which you can elect your
neighbor because you've known them for thirty years and they have a sense of
humor. We need people with skill, vision, and competence; who are willing to take
responsibility for the lives of the people they represent.

On another note, does anyone know if the MPD has an intelligence division?
I know that the LAPD did for a while, before they began stepping on people's
civil rights. BTW, if no one in city government has a clue about preventive
measures to avert disasters, I (as those who have read my posts might
guess) have some suggestions. Of course, I'd like to hear from the
candidates first.
