I know I'm going to get a bunch of people's dander up, but here goes... On the side, personally, I like the squirrels. Yeh they piss me off when they dig up my garden, but I kinda see it that we're all in this together and this is their space too. It's the CATS I'm concerned about! Now don't get me wrong - I love animals (except maybe the silver fish that seem to always end up in my bathroom). Anyone who knows me with AriCulure and all know me as one of those artist types, but in my past life I was a Zoology major in animal behavior. And I love cats - I have one. But it's the outside versus the inside thing. Cats are exotic species and they reck havoc with the environment - including urban environments. And let's be realistic here, it's much more common for cats to be taking down song birds than the local squirrels. Yeh, so my cat is reduced to catching the silver fish and and the like inside the house, but she is happy and much more healthy for it. If the cat must go out - there's always a leash - like the dogs have to. I had a friend back in Michigan who walked her cat and apparently the cat refused to go off the sidewalk! And personally I'd rather have the squirrels digging up my garden than having to deal with what my neighbor's cat insists on leaving there. He seems to have decided my gardens are his toilet! Yuck!!! Actually all the neighbors in the area complain about his toiletry habits. Hummmm... maybe I should try recruiting some of those raptors. He's a pretty big cat - maybe I could get them to work togther in teams.
