I'd actually be interested in what Dean Zimmerman has to say directly about
this. Is Stafford characterizing his position correctly?

As I understand it, Sharon Sayles Belton, Jackie Cherryhomes and Senator
Linda Berglin were busily working the floor for Dean K's DFL endorsement.
Despite that -- he didn't get endorsed on first ballot did he? Rather
similar to the help they gave Vickie Brock -- though I believe now the
Mayor is officially neutral on the Brock-Lilligren-Metoyer race in the 8th
ward.

As far as what I or Jonathan Palmer think of Dean Kallenbach -- it's pretty
irrelevant to whether he should make himself available on this list. There
are over 600 people on this list. There are a number of 6th ward people
who post on the list. I don't even live in the 6th ward.

But Jonathan Palmer writes:

If I were to be questioned on my commitment to issues of the GLBT
community, and I said that I doorknocked and talked to some Lesbians and
was therefore committed to the issues, would you or anyone else really
think that that was enough? Incidently, I haven't notice Kallenbach absent
from any major events in the GLBT community or the DFL for that matter.

EY: This type of attitude seemed enough for Vickie Brock to get an
acceptable rating from Stonewall DFL - heck as I recall she was unfamiliar
with the term "homophobia". Since the Stonewall Questionaire was posted on
the Stonewall Website, it is rather wierd that Vickie didn't bother to go
look at the questionaire prior to her endorsement. Ofcourse Brian Herron
got endorsed by Stonewall DFL for less.

At the same time, I don't measure whether a candidate is good on GLBT
issues on whether they attend specific Gay events. It's important to look
at their stands on various issues. Reproductive Choice to abortion in my
opinion is NOT a GLBT issue -- I know Gay people on both sides of this one.
I also happen to know feminists on both sides of this one. Some gay
organizations use this as a litmus test for support -- but I don't think
this makes all that much sense -- and I consider myself pro-choice on
abortion.

I'd think Dean Kallenbach and Vickie Brock could follow the illustrious
example given by Doug Kress and Paul Zerby. Both candidates did not get
Sierra Club Endorsement. They used the opportunity to contribute their
endorsement questionaire to the Election Toolkit so that people could go
review the candidates positions for themselves.

By the way, I'd like to thank David Brauer for maintaining this toolkit. I
recommend this toolkit to friends of mine looking for information about
candidates. The toolkit is better information than a candidate website
because it shows a candidate in context of other candidates. I'd also like
to thank the candidates who have contributed to this toolkit.
