I was at a Ward 2 candidate forum last week at Van Cleve Park, where a woman in the audience asked about what the candidates feel about making City Councilpersons' voting records and such things more accessible to voters. While Cam Gordon was clear that such information should be available online, Paul thinks things are hunky-dory because he has seen campaign representatives "digging in the files" (huh?), so *obviously* that information is accessible *enough*, and the people who want that info are getting it. Sorry, but the fact that campaign reps are getting the info doesn't convince me that the VOTERS are. And I suppose that is all fine and good to Paul (we're on a first-name basis now, you see), who went on to trash-talk our very own Jordan Kushner for sharing that information with this list. Yes, Jordan, according to Paul, you are to blame for making available all that "damaging" (Paul's word) information from the campaigns' treasurers' reports-- I guess he thinks that no candidate need take responsibility for how much money they take from whom and to what end, nor does he think the voters need to be able to easily find out where this money came from or where it goes.
All I can utter is a dumbfounded "wow".... perhaps this candidate can print up some more stickers for his lawn signs so that he can advertise his real identity: "DFLer for (oh, well, just leaving things as they are.)" Thanks to everyone who is making the local campaigns more transparent, from Jordan's updates from City Hall (I look forward to seeing what there is before the election!), to the toolkit now available on the Mpls Issues site, and especially those candidates who have nothing to hide because they are running an honest, open, and truely democratic campaign.
