I read my Whittier Globe this weekend and found nearly a page dedicated to "he said" "she said" over the prostitution issue. What a waste of paper.
My views on this issue are that the profession has been around for at least 2,001 years if not more. No matter how we huff and puff we have neither been able to eradicate it nor have we been able to legalize it. (except in Nevada and some European places) Even if Dean Zimmerman personally feels the saunas on Lake Street should be re-opened, I can't really see him offering legislation to do such a thing nor do I envision 6 other council members voting for it. That being said, can we please move on to more substantive issues facing the sixth ward. We have 8 development projects in the sixth ward that neighborhood volunteers worked diligently to develop in addition to spending their now very sacred NRP dollars to have completed. Does either Dean know what these projects are? Does either Dean have a plan for how they will address them once elected? How will you fund them? How will you get 6 other council members to agree with you? LRT will be on the tracks in 2004. The city is responsible for development along the LRT lines. Phillips is a long border for LRT. Have the two Dean's thought about this? How do you see Phillips developing in a way that makes LRT an asset to Phillips, not another transportation mode that closes Phillips off from the rest of the world like Interstates 35W, 94E, and the new Hiawatha (or 55)and again, how do you get 6 other council members to agree with you? There's the I35W project, and 1st Av. and Blaisdell. Any thoughts here? The election is a week away. Please stop spending your time attacking each other and tell us all what your plans are? For just one week, can the two Dean's spend their time telling why they are qualified and ready to do this job instead of telling us why the other one is not?
