Kudos to Barb for saying what most of us are thinking
about the increasingly negative campaigning in the
6th. I will say that I don't think Dean Zimmermann or
any other city official can mandate that any type of
business be opened in one place, nor is that what the
local goverment should be doing. It's also telling
that Kallenbach is campaigning on the issue that Kathy
Thurber, who is not seeking reelection and probably
would not be reelected, would be campaigning on right
now.

For me, Kallenbach's law and order language is very
troublesome, because when politicians who aren't well
informed decide to get tough on crime, the people they
get tough with are usually people like me. The
question I asked at the forum probably didn't get
answered I'd like to add this to the list of
questions.

"Over the past several years, many innocent people
such as Lloyd Smalley, Lillian Weiss, Tycell Neson,
Alfred Sanders and Barbara Schneider have been
murdered by the Minneapolis Police. What will you do
to hold each individual officer accountable and insure
that these murders as well as other harrassment by the
police never happen again."

These are my feelings about the race vis a vis this
issue: Jim Graham recently wrote a letter to the Star
Tribune in which he claims that Kallenbach will be
better on crime. If Kallenbach advocates Graham's
agenda, Zimmermann is the clear choice for people like
me who are worried about gentrification and have
always had trouble fitting in. Of course, it doesn't
help that Kallenbach never even tried to reach out to
those of us who also ran or our constituents.

In the end, each candidate should speak for
themselves, and it is up to us to make our decisions
accordingly. I hope that each candidate will answer
Barb's questions and answer mine. I exend that to all
candidates for office, in this year's city races
(mayor, city council, park board <contarary to popular
myth, the park police are sometimes involved in some
of these incidents>), and next year's legislative
races.
