I support what Robert Velez says about term limits. When I was a graduate student at the University of Michigan, the president was Robbins Fleming. He was an experienced labor negotiator who led that university in the 1960's. There were plenty of antiwar demonstrations and student strikes, and the Black Students Movement. In my second year, 1969, he was up for reappointment. He declined the reappointment and said something to the effect that someone in his position has ten years. If you don't implement your program in that amount of time, get someone new. This principled stand had a profound impact on me and has served as a model to evaluate all leaders since.
