I strongly disagree. A good library background is essential to someone stepping into this position, particularly at a time when MPL is building a new library and refurbishing community libraries. > > 3) Now that the Board has publicly acknowledged that there is a looming > shortfall in operating funds as the new, larger and remodeled library > facilities begin coming online across the city, I expect to see Board action > to actively address the issue. Which programs are to be cut? I don't think this is a question to ask. Our library does not provide as much programming as is needed right now. The better question is how to raise the money to go forward with a rejuvinated library system. How much more > operating money will be needed, where, and over what time periods? This is something like the question I've been asking: how will the library get more lifetime library users. It is now something less than 20% of the population who use the library. If we're spending $140 million (plus), shouldn't the library attract a bigger segment of the population? How can a new director make that happen?
