Here's my question:

Why are these top slots assumed to have to go to "outsiders" via a national
search? Do you mean to tell me that there is not one visionary,
politically astute, committed, able body within our library system (or even
as far as the Hennepin County Library System) that could succeed in this
position and take our libraries to 'the next level'? I am absolutely
dumbfounded by the necessity of a national search.

I contend that bringing in 'outsiders' to manage our system
creates "paycheck" players; those who are not really invested in the long
term success of the system whether it is State, County, or City government,
libraries, schools or what have you.

I urge those within the system to speak out and start developing leadership
within the system so that we don't have to draft some "free agent" who will
stay only until they have garnered enough experience to get an EVEN BETTER
offer from an EVEN BIGGER city. Let's stop jacking the prices up like
owners have done in professional sports just so we can win the 'super bowl'
or 'world series' of libraries,, schools and City government!
