[BRM] I am out of town so I haven't read or heard Gary Schiff's
recent comments. But I did watch the Council's organizational meeting last
month, and can attest that Gary did not "shift" his vote for Council
president. Gary voted for Barb Johnson and against Paul Ostrow when the
roll was called. After the result was determined and Paul took the chair,
Gary moved that Paul's election be made unanimous. Such a motion is common
after a close or contentious election, and it is in order only if made from
the losing side. Gary's motion was a gracious and conciliatory gesture
after a vote full of tension and uncertainty, and it was in no way
inconsistent with Gary's support of Barb's campaign for president. The
Council unanimously adopted Gary's motion, so in effect everyone (including
Barb) "shifted" their vote.
