Artspace Withdraws Bonding Request

Artspace Projects has withdrawn its request to the Minnesota Legislature for
$10 million in state bonding assistance for the Minnesota Shubert Performing
Arts and Education Center. Mayor Rybak asked them to withdraw this request
so the city could focus its efforts on two priority bonding projects, the
Empowerment Zone and the Planetarium and Space Discovery Center, and
preserve funding for the Minnesota State Arts Board. Artspace President
Kelley Lindquist graciously agreed to withdraw the request and direct his
fundraising energies to sources other than the Legislature.

Artspace has also agreed to use its influence at the Legislature as part of
a united effort to help Minneapolis obtain full funding for the projects on
its priority list.

"We anticipate that two years from now, both the Legislature and the city of
Minneapolis will be in a stronger position to help the Minnesota Shubert
Center, which will be a valuable addition to downtown Minneapolis and the
Hennepin Avenue Theatre District," Mayor Rybak said.
