Mayor Rybak may be supportive of the arts, however, tax revenues are down due to the recession and, so as to maintain a balanced budget, expenditures must be cut or taxes raised or both. Since most people seem to be generally opposed to raising taxes, I expect that Mayor Rybak and the City Council will choose to cut expenditures. And since most people consider certain city services to be essential, those services will generally be spared the axe, while other programs will have their funding reduced or eliminated. My guess is that many people would choose to cut funding for the arts rather than cut funding for street maintanance, but I could be wrong on that account. Hopefully, after the recession has passed, our elected representatives will find it within themselves to restore the funding to programs that were cut.
