<Joe McNeely, director of the Development Training Institute in Baltimore,
kicks off the first in a series of seminars sponsored by PPL and Augsburg College:
"Building Futures: Community Building in the 21st Century"
Monday, March 4 * 7:00 pm
Foss Center at Augsburg College, 22nd St. and Riverside Ave., Mpls
This event is FREE. Please RSVP to (612) 813-3204.
Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly and Lorna Bourg,
director of the Southern Mutual Help Association based in rural Louisiana,
will respond to McNeely's remarks in a discussion immediately following his
address. Joe McNeely is a nationally recognized expert on neighborhood revitalization strategies. Lorna Bourg has received several national awards for her work with communities in Louisiana.
These people are about making real change - not just in one building but whole neighborhoods and systems. This seminar and the others coming up are about thinking BIG in terms of really changing dynamics in low-income communities,
and getting good, viable ideas out there about how this can happen. Another major theme of these seminars is how all the building blocks - nonprofits, churches, colleges, government, banks, individuals - can lend their resources and can all benefit. We will hear about ways this is already working in communities, and talk together about how we can leverage our own building blocks. So, please join us as we consider the different pieces of this puzzle with a diverse group of our neighbors and the guiding hand of some "puzzle experts".
For directions or more information, visit www.ppl-inc.org. You will find
further information on the speakers, the seminar series and a map to the
site. Volunteers will be on site at Augsburg to direct you to free parking
in the area.
PPL thanks The Fannie Mae Foundation and Twin Cities Local Initiatives
Support Corporation (LISC) for sponsoring this series. >
