I do not think it is an issue of that I "could" not, but rather an issue
of I "will" not. As much I as I would like to eat at a neighborhood
eatery, from my experiences shopping at SuperValu and Target on West
Broadway, I have learned that I will probably be disrespected. I much
prefer to grocery shop at Rick's Market in NE or at Byerly's in Golden
Valley simply because the staff is polite, respectful and pays attention
to me as if my dollar matters. The last time I was at the SuperValu on
West Broadway the cashier made it clear to me that she would rather talk
to her friend than ring up my order. Actually, that type of situation has
happened everytime I have shopped there. The last time I shopped at the
Target on West Broadway, I got the distinct feeling that the cashier felt
I was imposing upon her because I had entered her line (the sigh and
rolling of the eyes was the tip off). It really chaps my hide when a
polite "Hello" is not returned and is instead ignored. So, I vote with my
dollars and go where I feel respected.

Some might think it is a black/white issue, but I think it is something
else. When I lived in Brooklyn Center, I shopped at a Cub in which the
cashiers were predominantly black, yet, I never felt disrespected by them.
Something is wrong with West Broadway, but I do not know what it is.

Keith is correct. I think that the West Broadway corridor gives
Minneapolis a bad impression. I think of all the surburbanites who commute
into downtown via West Broadway. If this is what they see every workday,
what do they think the rest of Minneapolis is like? I see a lot of
potential on West Broadway, but I think others will only see decay.
