I guess I might be a little late on reading and
reacting to the postings sent in about "critical mass"
the other day, but I think it is important that more
people express concern. At first I was stunned that
the MPD was giving out violations for people who don't
have registered bikes. Maybe this just seems weird to
me but I have had numerous bikes throughout my life
and I've never been told to register them with the
city or local gov. Of course ignorance is not
justifiable but it just seems odd. Then I read about
the initial reason the bikers were stopped. They ran a
red light. It is as simple as that, bikes have to
follow the same rules as cars. Just because your
friends get through a light doesn't give you the ok to
run it just to keep up with them.
Now of course we get to the tackling of bikers by the
MPD. I just don't know what to say about this,
(unreal). What kind of judgment is implored to see
that tackling someone off their bike is reasonable,
maybe if they were a escaping a felony charge or
something along those grounds, but not a simple red
light or failure to register their bike.
It becomes easier and easier everyday to see wasted
money in this city and this state.
