I am also a proud graduate of the CTC's TAT school. And I support NOT
mutilating the MIA or CTC.

As a young person I was lucky enough to be a student
at the CTC, as was my daughter years later, and a
nephew. When I was there, we had no set building.
Our campus was all of the Whittier neighborhood, which
I personally loved. When my daughter and nephew
attended they had the current building.

Ann is right. Kids don't need that type of building
to entice them about what's inside. Kids can see
creativity in a stick and pile of dirt. My
granddaughter likes exploring everything, as long as
it doesn't look too scary. It teached them also, not
to judge a book by its cover.

Let's hear a mighty round of applause for Linda Mack

list of words that will get me banned for inflamatory

I speak from experience: my four children, now grown,
loved attending Children's Theatre, actually got
dressed up to attend most times, and - as far as I can
tell - never felt the least put off by the beautiful,
sleek facade of CTC/MIA. In fact they actually
clambored to prowl the galleries of the MIA, had their
own favorite pieces (Hammering Man, The Denial of
Peter, the bronze nymphs). Hey, just because we want
children to enjoy the place doesn't mean it has to
look like it was built with Legos.

Young people can learn to appreciate beauty,
restraint, elegance...if only we take the time to
teach them rather than pandering to themGraves' design
promises us yet another desecration of an unusually
elegant and beautiful landmark. Folks, what is it
about our city that is breeding such a proliferation
of really UGLY stuff?
