Dear e-democracy participants: You might be wondering to yourself outloud, "What ever happened with that guy who was going to make a map for us?" Back in early February, I got motivated to produce a dot map showing the home location of the mpls-issues list participants.
I want the ability to visualize the spatial distribution of list participation. Are we really an elitist group of SW Mpls airport activists? I think a map could help us answer some questions, and might even raise new ones we haven't considered. From which parts of the city do we tend to hail? A dot map could show us. David Brauer did a summary of postings by neighborhood, and this roused my curiosity. So... I received 18 responses to my initial request for address info. I placed dots on a map for these people. However, I need more dots to make the map meaningful. Now YOU can participate in this project more easily due to mind boggling new internet technology developed by a web wizard friend of mine from Powderhorn Park. Check it out! http://www.thomm.com/issues/ This web site easily allows you to punch your address into a form, then I'll take the form and match addresses to the street layer using GIS software. Maps will appear periodically as new addresses are added. You can be anonymous if you aren't comfortable sharing this information with me, a mysterious stranger. I will not share your address with anyone, only the resulting dot map will be made publicly available. If you don't want to enter your exact address, its ok simply put in the cross streets and a dot will show up at that intersection. If you live outside the city or state, you can still be counted. (But, you might not show up on the map if you live in Tampa, FL) I also included some additional survey questions that are entirely optional, but would be interesting for discussion, so hit the site and punch in your stuff and let me know what you think. Once I have at least 50 dots, I'll release a map. Thanks for taking part, Conor Donnelly Waite Park, Ward One _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
