Recently, a number of postings have been directed toward the MPRB regarding
the lack of a dog park in the 6th Park District. Most have claimed that a
lack of leadership on the MPRB has resulted in nothing getting done.
Perhaps, it's either been forgotten or intentionally neglected that over
two years ago, when I still was on the Park Board, that I brought forward
an action to site a dog park at the archery site at Lake Calhoun. This was
defeated in committee by one vote because M-ROMP leaders demanded that the
site be on the east side of Lake Harriet, closer to where they resided.
It should be noted it was the strongest proponents of dog parks (including
Vivian Mason) who subcumbed to their lobbying and voted against my
proposal. We need to remember the actions of all parties involved in this
long and contentious process to understand why nothing has yet to be
accomplished. There's plenty of blame to go around.
