Children of color, particularly African and Native American
children in the Twin Cities area are disproportionately
represented in out of home placements. Mary Jo Copeland
proposes an orphanage in Eagan to house children who
parents "don't care" [this came directly from Joe Sensor's
Senate testimony a few months ago]. Mary Jo has also
proposed to give the children religious training, and she
does not proposed culturally and spiritually specific
training for the children.

Neva Walker has proposed legislation on a moratium on
building large children institutions until we study the
underutilization of the current large children's
institutions.

If you have the time, please, please attend the
"discussion" and support the moratoriaum on building large
children's institutions.

ALERT

As you know, the orphanage debate is heating up in Eagan,
and we need your help to make sure our voice is heard.
There is an educational forum in Eagan
on this coming Monday night, May 6, to inform residents
about the orphanage
proposal for Eagan. We are hearing that there may be large
numbers of
orphanage proponents going to Eagan, possibly to protest
the forum. Please
help us make sure that our message about what children
really need isn't
lost in this discussion.

We need you at this meeting to be a voice for children. If
you can, please
attend the Eagan Citizen's Education Forum on Monday, May
6, from 6:30
8:30 p.m. in the Multi-task Room of Blackhawk Middle School
(1540 Deerwood
Drive, Eagan MN 55122)

Go to the 35 E (south) & Pilot Knob Rd./Yankee Doodle Dandy
exit and head south on Pilot Knob Rd. for about 2 miles.
Take a right turn on Deerwood Dr. Go 3/10 of a mile to the
entrance of Deerwood Elementary & Blackhawk Middle School
and take a left. Go to the top of the hill, Blackhawk
Middle School.

If you have any questions, please call Mary Ford, Alicia
Groh, or Mary Boo
at NACAC (651-644-3036). We hope to see you there to help
express the need
to keep children in families and out of institutions.
