List, I think we can all agree that it is unwise (as well as a violation of list rules) to publicly post private e-mails. It has a chilling effect on freedom of speech. In addition, there are differences between what you might say in private and in public. My posts to this list are usually quite reasonable (well, you might not agree with my opinions, but the way they're worded is usually reasonable), but what one says in a private e-mail is more like a conversation one might have in private, in which opinions are more free-wheeling. Therefore, I find it quite objectionable that Mr. Barisonzi has once again violated both list rules and general ethics and etiquette. Our excellent List Manager has asked that we not debate list rules on the list, so the only reason I'm sending this to all is that if I did not, everyone would probably start debating the substance of my private e-mail, as if I had sent it to the list, and since I did not, I'm asking that we not debate it.
