The idea of boycotting Target and others because they benefited from a
city subsidy is ridiculous (and backwards).

It's ridiculous, because - as Barbara Lickness pointed out - the list
includes every business that has benefited from an NRP grant or loan,
not to mention the Guthrie, every Artspace project, every affordable
housing project, every neighbor that received an NRP grant for home
repairs, etc.

I know the neighbor isn't a "big greedy corporation" but it's the same
backwards logic. It's backwards because these businesses (and nonprofit
organizations and individuals) are simply using programs and financing
mechanisms created and approved by the city or the neighborhoods. If you
want to cast blame, start with the people that voted for the subsidies
not those that took advantage of them.

Think about it: It's much more productive to lobby your councilmember
against using TIF at Nicollet/Lake than it is to boycott Kmart after
it's rebuilt.
