You'll probably have a more pleasant bike commute if you switch over to W. River Road. You can do that at 23rd Ave N, and follow River Road (moving onto off-road trails at Plymouth) to 4th Ave N, Hennepin Ave, or Portland Ave, depending on where you work downtown. Keeps you off Washington entirely, which is probably good, since that's not a very pleasant route to ride a bike on. As for me, I walked the 10 steps or so from my bedroom to my desk today.
