A very interesting Star Tribune piece today regarding efforts to save the old Guthrie Theatre. http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/2868840.html The issue will be before the City Council Zoning and Planning Committee on June 11. Last year, a study funded by the Walker found no viable reuse for the existing Guthrie. No surprise there. I would love to see the Guthrie saved for community classical orchestras such as the Minnesota Sinfonia and Minnesota Philharmonic who are scattered to various venues. Also, the existing Guthrie would be an excellent location for chamber ensembles and various community theatres. I believe the Walker can have its needed expansion by using the old Allianz Insurance Building site and we should leave the Guthrie intact.
