Have any of you considered that a number of DFL people
might still be a little mad at Jonathon for his committing to
support the DFL endorsement for City Council, only to
forget the promise to abide by the endorsement when he
lost. The other candidates who ran refused to make such
a promise and it probably hurt them at the convention, but
not in public estimation..

While Matthea is forgetting how mad she was about it,
apparently a lot of folks going to the convention did not.
I talked to several people who attended the convention
for the sole reason of voting against Jonathan for this very
reason. All the Political support Jonathan had from the
"Leaders" should have guaranteed his selection over even
the top three. I have never heard of a candidate for such
an office with that support. Certainly no Minneapolis
City Council candidate in years has been able to get such
support. Jonathan is to be congratulated for his success
with these DFL "Leaders". I put leaders in quotation marks
because the DFL apparently was unwilling to be lead.

What an incredible embarrassment this failure must have been
for these "Leaders". What the "Leaders" should understand
is that DFLers can be lead but are damn hard to push through
a hole that the candidate has made even smaller.

With this having been said, I feel that this was a political position
that Jonathan was far more qualified for than City Council and
far more qualified for than some who were selected. If Jonathon
did not commit to respect the endorsing procedure then I would
certainly support him in running in a primary or the general election.
He would certainly be much better than someone whose major
qualifications seem to be that she was a crony of the past mayor.

Jonathan needs to accept and do his penance for a while and
then come back and run again, and he will do alright. He has
served as a good example to other young politicians however.
Its OK to run and lose or even to run and lose at the convention
and oppose the endorsed candidate in the primary, but it is not
OK to promise to abide by and then go back on your word.
It PO's a lot of people with principals, even if it is OK with some
political "Leaders".

Of course "Principals" may be something that some "Leaders" are
not too familiar with, so they can be excused for not applying the
principal to their actions.
