West Broadway Ave. North, a county highway and the main commercial corridor
of the Northwest quadrant of Mpls. is set for a repaving, and modifications.
There exists a tug of war between the Neighborhood goals of a
shopping/commercial district and the County goal of a commuter corridor for
suburbanites. I expect about $50,000 in assessments, plus interest, for the
frontage I own there (give or take a couple nickels).

But how will a commuter corridor (highway?) serve a neighborhood, and in
microcosm, what will my 50 large buy me? I could not help but be hooked by
Smplsguy 2002's query, "...is the next stage in transportation planning to
make freeways out of our commercial corridors...?"

This tug of war is not over; and the outcomes still uncertain. Lake Street
and West Broadway, two historic Titans of commerce of our fair City. How will
they be turned into pedestrian unfriendly by-passes of our neighborhoods'
amenities? How will they bring in neighborhood sustaining fresh retail money
and reinvestment?
