The vacancy rate at CCHT has been a matter of contention on the list all of a
sudden. The rental policies, and operational outlook, of this publicly funded
housing trust/developer was the issue that brought Eve white, Executive
Director of MPRC (The Mpls. Property Rights Action Committee) to attempt some
research starting a few months ago. She explained this and other details to
me in a phone conversation this evening.
I have asked her to gather up her research and documentation and please
forward it to me for the perusal of The List Readers. This information, she
tells me, will include her request at a public meeting of the Henn. County
Board (In March ' 02?), to inquire about vacancy rates at CCHT. This after,
she further explained to me, casual "testers" were sent to inquire about
renting homes from CCHT. These people were told 'no vacancy', I am told.
She further explained that CCHT, and PPL, were very slow to forward requested
information to the County Board. Perhaps stalling for weeks or months, she
suggested.
She added that she, early on, called the HUD offices in Wash. DC to register
her concerns and they were very prompt in sending representatives out to our
fair City. Very prompt.
She said that the outcome for CCHT may be substantial reduction in Federal
funding of future CCHT projects, and other sanctions. She suggested that
Federal funding is the cornerstone of some CCHT projects. Perhaps the
'first' partner in assembling funding from the State, County, City and
philanthropic agencies, she suggested.
Again, I have asked her to outline and document these concerns. Maybe Mr.
Hauer has some information regarding this rough outline of events which are
my recollection of my phone conversation with Eve White this evening. This
would probably be a fair perspective from the 'other side of the fence' in
this particular matter.
I would like to add an interesting personal note that Eve White shared with
me in this conversation: She is an active Board Member of The Alliance
Housing Trust (?), which is a nonprofit provider of housing.
I would like to know more about this CCHT/PPL matter. I will not form a
conclusion about the involved parties without more facts. I am a reporter
only, in this posting, and I did not take notes.
