In addition to Linda Mack's article on Block E in today's Strib, 'How did Block E come to this?' avail. at: < http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/3130390.html >,
don't miss Britt Robson's excellent article about McKinsey, 'The Mckinsey Report: Curtailing the power of the Minneapolis City Council' in the 7/24 issue of City Pages, avail. at: http://citypages.com/databank/23/1129/article10582.asp Both articles point out the process inefficiencies inherent in the City's current economic development and urban planning and zoning bureaucracy. Robson's article, especially, points out many strengths and weaknesses associated with the status quo and with proposed changes. We've heard from many, on why the proposed changes in McKinsey won't work. It's becoming ever-more clear, however, that significant changes are needed, and it's time we start hearing about how to make the needed changes-- how to get more for less. McKinsey deserves much credit for their efforts. Now, let's fine-tune their plan, simplify and improve the processes, and develop implementation strategies that will work in an increasingly budget-constrained environment.
