Hi Mr. Rice:
I'm glad that you've joined the list, and I read your evaluation of the
list with interest. It seems that you have very little opinion of having
the general public get more knowledge of issues that are before the Park
Board, and especially don't like us taxpayers commenting on government
expenditures.
The people on this list participate in politics, and real connections for
real issues are made here on this list.
I appreciated Emily Ero-Phillips post about the Park Board purchase of
their headquarters building, and the justification for their override of
the Mayor's veto. Before this, the main justification I heard from the
Park board was as Megan Thomas put it "the Park Board played nice and
didn't push for their own funding referenda last year and before. They
played nice and said they would wait so the Schools and then the Library
could put forth their own referenda. Only to be told that they can't do
it now, that they have to "tighten their belts" and so on ...
There may be the reality of budget constraints now and the park Board
may be screwed (again) but they deserve a little credit and maybe a
little preference now for being good community members and waiting their
turn (only to have the window closed when they got to the front of the
line.)
==================================
EY: They do deserve credit for being good soldiers. However, this isn't a
good public policy reason for spending the type of money planned on the
building.
I would like to challenge Brian Rice to explain clearly why people on this
list have inaccurate information, and are posting inaccurate information.
It helps if one refers to specific posts that are putting out inaccurate
information.
>From Mr. Rice's comment about the Governor, I assume he doesn't like Talk
Radio much either. Personally, I do think Talk Radio can be a bit
demogogic -- however, it's a more democratic medium than most other media
-- and at least audience members can call in. Generally when I call in to
the Jason Lewis show, I get on the air. When I have called in to ask
candidates questions on MPR, I've spent over 50 minutes on hold, only to
end up not being able to talk to the candidates.
Just telling us all on the forum, we are really too stupid to understand
these things won't address our questions or concerns.
I personally found David's humor, humorous. Politics is no fun if you
can't get a laugh out of things once in a while.
