Great addition. My kids, when they were 10 to 14 years old would fish the
channel between Cedar and Lake of the Isles with an assortment of kids
including Al Wong from Rainbow Cafe. Each year someone of these kids
managed to hook and land a 25 to 28 lb muskee in addition to big largemouth
and tons of carp. They (the kids) are older now, and have more
sophisticated fishing places and tastes, but their best fishing stories are
still about that fishing.

One poor kid always had to borrow equipment from the other kids. One day he
was able to purchase a $5.00 zebco combination at K-Mart but had no lures or
hooks. When asking for such the other kids made a joke of each attaching one
or two lures to his line in an eight inch string. Jokingly he cast it out
and on that cast hooked a 28 lb Muskee. After fighting for an hour the kids
all waded into the shallow water and herded the big fish into shore and
pushed it onto shore. This true fish story is better than any in any fishing
magazine I have read. I have eavesdropped and heard it many times from
small boys through young men over the years, and it still delights me.
Thanks for the opportunity to again re-live it from my memory.

Those kids from many backgrounds and nationalities still have a bond that
was built from such mutual experiences. With all the talk about Park and
Recreation Buildings we sometimes forget our best parks and recreation
building, which is building our children and their character.
