You are sooooo right when you say that whites/blacks interact far more in the deep South than they do here in Minnesota. As a Latino man, I frequently am subjected to "Minnesota Nice Yet So Damn Subtle Racism". I would rather know my enemies and detractors than the racists that lurk amongst us.
I've had many a white friend from other parts of the country say to me when visiting "what's up with the white people here, they are so damn afraid of non-white folks, how stupid and wierd?", or "jeez, this town (and state) is so racially segregated". Ahem, and how could Target management be so dense as to not know what the emblems meant? Why are they marketing clothing with symbols and sayings when they have no idea what they mean? Obviously they didn't care, as Mr. Rodriguez reports that he was "blown off" by the corporate office. Only when the Southern Povery Law Center got involved did they get the message. > > Racism in Minneapolis (and in greater Minnesota) is subtle and insidious and a big problem--all the more so because so many people don't want to talk about it, or acknowledge that it exists. I have observed that whites and blacks interact more in many areas of "the South" than they do in the Midwest, something that is supported by my conversations with people on the bus. > > I receive the Center's Intelligence Report and Teaching Tolerance publications, and I'd be happy to pass them along to any List member or group who is interested. They are very informative. > Kristine Harley > Sheridan > _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
