It is cars that are causing traffic problems downtown
AND deteriorating the quality of life in our city.
They're noisy, smelly, polluting and dangerous to
those of us biking, walking, and yes, busing downtown
- IMPROVING the quality of life in our city.

That said, we deserve something a little better than
the "suicide lanes" on 2nd and Marquette (those on
Hennepin aren't as bad because they are wider).
Nicollet Mall is IDEAL for riding downtown - it should
be open 24/7. Or, at least, physically separated
(with a curb, for example) bike lanes should be
constructed.

Ultimately, making Nicollet pedestrian/bike only would
do wonders for life downtown. The best cities in the
world usually have attractive car-free zones where you
can actually "stroll" without fear of being killed by
a big chunk of steel. Maybe someone has numbers on
the benefits to retailers in those districts? If not
Nicollet, then somewhere else - we need a nice
pedestrian district.
